Working with Rofsky
Three ways to engage, all with direct senior access and no intermediaries.
Technical Operations Partner
The core engagement model. You have operational complexity that benefits from someone senior who already understands your systems, not a break-fix vendor you brief from scratch every time something goes wrong.
A retainer means ongoing context: I know your infrastructure, your vendors, which integrations are reliable and which ones need watching. When something comes up, there’s no ramp-up time, no contract negotiation, no assembling a team. The work gets handled.
Typical scope includes infrastructure oversight, platform administration, vendor management, recurring technical operations, and serving as a technical advisor before you sign contracts or commit to new platforms.
$5,000–$15,000/month. Structured as an ongoing monthly engagement. Month-to-month after an initial period. Think fractional CTO or IT director, someone already context-loaded on your stack before you need them.
Project Engagements
Defined-scope work: a migration, a custom application build, a platform integration, a legacy system modernization. Structured as a monthly engagement over a defined period, typically three to six months. Scope and monthly rate are agreed upfront so the total is predictable. The monthly structure keeps both sides focused on pace and outcome.
Scope is defined before work begins. The monthly rate and expected duration are agreed upfront, so the total cost is predictable. I take on a limited number of project engagements at a time.
Typical projects include: database migrations and architecture, ecommerce platform builds and integrations, custom web application development for regional businesses, ordering and fulfillment system integrations, admin portals, API development, WordPress and LAMP stack development, and infrastructure overhauls for SoCal companies moving off legacy setups.
$3,500–$8,500/month for a typical 3–6 month engagement. Total cost is predictable from the start.
On-Demand
No retainer required. When you have a specific problem that needs senior attention (an outage, a security issue, an architectural question before a vendor decision), this is the path. Available to both retainer clients and direct engagements. New direct engagements book within 48 hours.
$175–$250/hour, billed in 30-minute blocks. Two-hour minimum for new engagements.
What the work actually covers
25 years of custom web and application development, from automotive ecommerce integrations in 2001 to AI workflow automation today. The full range:
Custom web application development. Purpose-built systems for businesses that have outgrown off-the-shelf tools. Ordering systems, admin portals, reporting dashboards, management platforms. Built to fit how the business actually operates, not how a SaaS product assumes it operates.
Ecommerce platforms and multichannel integrations. WooCommerce builds, custom ecommerce, and platform integrations. Cross-channel inventory and checkout, marketplace sync, fulfillment system wiring. Multichannel work going back to the early days of eBay integration.
Database architecture and migrations. MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server. Schema design, query optimization, data migrations, legacy database modernization. Including Drupal-on-SQL-Server and other non-standard infrastructure configurations.
CMS development: WordPress and Drupal. Deep expertise in both. 70–80 Drupal builds across a decade. WordPress custom theme and plugin development, WooCommerce, headless configurations. Not template work. Built from the application layer up.
API development and SaaS integration. REST APIs, third-party platform wiring, webhook integrations, and SaaS cost reduction through right-sized alternatives. If two systems need to talk to each other and there’s no native integration, this is solvable.
Portal and management system development. Real estate portals, investment platforms, tracking systems, auditing systems. Built for a national title company, foster care programs, casino infrastructure, and regional businesses across Southern California.
Mobile applications. Native and hybrid mobile apps, built alongside the web systems they connect to.
AI automation and workflow integration. Replacing manual processes and offshore labor with production AI pipelines. Assessment, build, training, and transition. 18 months of deployed systems; replaced 12 offshore workers for my own operations before doing the same for clients.
What Rofsky covers is the infrastructure and application layer, the systems that make everything else actually work.

How an engagement starts
You reach out with a description of what’s going on. A direct conversation, not a needs assessment form, not a discovery workshop. The fit and which engagement model makes sense for your situation becomes clear quickly.
For retainers: a short document defining scope, availability, and rate. For projects: a defined scope, deliverable list, and fixed or capped fee. For on-demand: work starts.
No pitch deck. Straightforward from the beginning.
Conversation
A direct call or email. You describe the situation. I ask a few questions. The conversation determines whether there's a fit and what form it should take.
Scope & Agreement
A concise document: scope, availability, rate. For projects: deliverables and a fixed or capped fee. Simple paperwork that reflects what was actually discussed.
Work Begins
Access is granted, work starts. No onboarding delay, no kickoff theater. The timeline is clear before anything is signed.
