Manufacturing systems consulting that understands the floor, not just the dashboard

Discuss a project

For small and mid-sized manufacturers and distributors whose systems haven't kept up. ERP selection and rescue, inventory accuracy work, shop floor integration, and the custom glue that keeps it all talking.

Where this fits

Manufacturers and distributors in the 10-200 employee range, typically in the Inland Empire corridor (Corona, Ontario, Chino, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, Riverside). Often running Fishbowl, NetSuite, QuickBooks Enterprise, or an older system that was custom-built 10-20 years ago.

Common reasons to bring in outside help:

  • Inventory accuracy below 90%
  • A failed or stalled ERP implementation
  • Shop floor data that doesn’t flow to the office systems
  • An aging custom system that the original builder is no longer supporting
  • Planning for an ERP switch and wanting an independent voice before committing
  • Integrating ecommerce, EDI partners, or customer portals with the operational systems

Work that’s been done

Inventory accuracy rescues (70% to 98%+ is a typical target). ERP integration with ecommerce, customer portals, and EDI trading partners. Shop floor data capture (barcode scanning, tablet-based station terminals). Custom reporting against ERP data where the built-in reports fall short. Rescue of failed or abandoned implementations where the original firm has walked away or been fired.

Why a consultant, not a VAR or the ERP vendor

ERP vendors and their Value-Added Resellers have incentives to push more product. That’s not inherently wrong, but it’s a different seat at the table than a consultant whose outcome is measured in your operational numbers. Rofsky doesn’t resell any ERP, doesn’t take referral fees, and doesn’t have a preferred vendor. The recommendation fits the business.

Engagement shape

Usually starts with a scoped assessment (1-2 weeks, flat fee) that produces a plain-English document: what’s working, what’s not, what the options are, and what each one would cost and take. From there, the business decides whether the next step is a project, a retainer, or a hand-off with documentation.

Manufacturing Inventory Accuracy

Common questions

Which ERPs do you work with for manufacturing clients?
Fishbowl, NetSuite, QuickBooks Enterprise, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Acumatica, and several custom in-house systems. The approach is ERP-agnostic.
Do you help pick a new ERP?
Yes. The ERP selection process is usually a scoped assessment: review the current state, operational requirements, team capability, and budget. Produce a shortlist of 2-3 realistic options with total cost of ownership estimates.
Can you rescue a failed ERP implementation?
Often yes. About a third of manufacturing engagements start as rescues. The first step is an honest assessment of whether the current implementation is salvageable.
Do you work with the shop floor systems too?
Yes. Shop floor data capture (barcode, tablet terminals, machine integration) is often where inventory accuracy gets fixed.
How do you handle the in-person aspect?
Southern California-based (Eastvale, CA). On-site visits are part of the work for local clients. For non-local clients, video and shared tooling handle the ongoing relationship.
What is the typical cost of a manufacturing systems engagement?
Assessments are usually $3,500 to $8,000 flat fee. Implementation and rescue work is typically $15K to $80K depending on scope. Ongoing retainers are $3K to $15K per month.
